Unfortunately this year’s group of live action shorts is unusually weak, with the exception of Miracle Fish. It is haunting, unusual, dark and absolutely captivating. It really deserves to win.

i am getting so nervous about my oscar picks
especially for foreign. I only saw 3 of the 5 foreigns — Ajami, Un Prophete, and The White Ribbon. I didn’t lovelovelove any of them! But do I just randomly pick one of the other 2? Or do I pick 1 of the 3 that I did see that I kind of liked best (Un Prophete)? Or do I go with The White Ribbon because it’s sort of the most famous even though it is also fully one of the weirdest...

I’ve even seen all of the shorts! But there are 6 movies I’ve yet to see, though I’m fairly certain that I’ll watch 3 of those before Sunday. So that leaves me 3 movies short...
